Volvo introduced an updated version of the C70, in new Flamenco Red Pearl paint, at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new C70 includes a redesigned front end, new rear LED lamps, and a redesigned, wider instrument panel.

Volvo XC90 was presented with a choice of two trim levels, the 2.5T and the T6. The 2.5T was the entry level version and offered a 2.5L 20 valve turbocharged inline 5 engine putting out 210 hp (160 kW; 210 PS) and 236 ft·lbf (320 N·m) mated to an Aisin co-developed AW55-50/51 5 speed automatic.

All U.S. 850s received standard equipment such as dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, head restraints and three-point seat belts for all passengers, power windows, door locks, and mirrors, cruise control, and dual zone climate control.
